09-027 Sunday February 1st at 12:41 pm Tanker 14
was dispatched MA with Station 29 for a vehicle fire in a garage.
Chief 201 arrived on the scene and advised that the vehicle was
not in the garage and Tanker 14 could be cancelled. Tanker 14
returned to quarters at 12:47 pm.
09-028 Monday February 2nd at 9:41 am Rescue 11,
Tanker 14, Tanker 54 and Brush 52 were dispatched to a chimney
fire at 5550 Road 14 with smoke coming from the roof ridge line.
Rescue 11 arrived on the scene at 9:49 am raised a ladder to
the roof to check for fire. Smoke was found coming from the gap
between the house and the chimney. The attic was clear of smoke
and no heat was detected by the thermal imaging camera. The homeowner
asked us to dismantle the top portion of the chimney to be sure
that there was no fire. The first 7 courses of brick were removed
along the house and the smoke was found to be coming from a crack
in the mortar along the house. The liner had failed and was allowing
the smoke and heat to enter the void along the house wall. Tanker
54 and Brush 52 were released at 10:10 am with Rescue 11 and
Tanker 14 remaining on the scene until 10:32 am. Rescue 11 and
Tanker 14 returned to quarters at 10:41 am.
09-029 Tuesday February 3rd at 2:16 am Station
19 was dispatched to Road 27 for lifting assistance to Squad
1. Personnel arrived on the scene at 2:32 am and was released
at 3:15 am.
09-030 Wednesday February 4th at 2:07 pm Brush
12 responded to a lift assist at 338 Park Avenue, Mt. Gilead
High School bus garage for a person who had fallen. Brush 12
arrived on the scene at 2:10 pm and departed at 2:17 pm.
09-031 Wednesday February 4th at 6:49 pm Tanker
14 was dispatched MA with Station 39 for a structure fire at
4370 Road 232 in Harmony Township. Tanker 14 was cancelled at
6:54 pm.
09-032 Thursday February 5th at 9:01 am Rescue
11 responded to a CO check at 356 Lincoln Avenue. The in house
detector had been activated. Firefighters checked the structure
and found no CO present. Advised the occupant to have the furnace
checked since it had been off earlier. Rescue 11 returned to
quarters at 9:30 am.
09-033 Thursday February 5th at 8:29 pm Station
19 and 59 were dispatched to a possible house fire at 6590 Road
119. Chief 501 arrived on the scene at 8:37 pm and advised that
the fire was out and all equipment could cancel except Engine
15 should continue in since it is their call. Engine 15 continued
in non-emergency and arrived on the scene at 8:49 pm. All equipment
returned to quarters at 8:21 pm. No damage to the residence.
09-034 Friday February 6th at 10:33 am Rescue 11
was dispatched to 305 Iberia Street for a strong odor of natural
gas. Firefighters checked the interior of the residence and found
no gas. While checking the north side of the house found a strong
odor of gas coming through the snow. Dug down into the snow and
found the leak about 4 feet from the side of the house. Columbia
gas was notified and arrived on the scene at 11:37 am. After
the Columbia gas representative arrived Rescue 11 went in service
at 11:38 am returning to quarters.
09-035 Friday February 6th at 1:38 pm Rescue 11
was dispatched to an odor of hot wiring at 536 Lee Street. Rescue
11 arrived on the scene at 1:39 pm. Firefighters checked the
residence and found a receptacle that was not being used indicating
over 100 degrees F with the Thermal Imaging Camera. The circuit
to that receptacle was shut off and the owner advised to contact
an electrician. Rescue 11 returned to quarters at 2:15 pm. Later
that day the lady called and advised that the electrician had
found a nail penetrating the wiring at the receptacle and repaired
the problem.
09-036 Saturday February 7th at 6:31 am Tanker
14 was dispatched MA with Station 59 for a chimney fire at 6955
St Rt 314. Station 59 arrived on the scene at 6:34 and advised
to cancel all MA equipment. Tanker 14 returned to quarters at
6:45 am.
09-037 Sunday February 8th at 4:23 pm a fire alarm
Box 125 was put out for 600 Douglas Street, Mt. Gilead
Manor. Chief 101 went direct to the scene and found that food
had burnt on the stove. Chief 101 advised fire control to cancel
all mutual aid at 4:25 pm. The alarm was reset and Chief 101
returned home.
09-038 Monday February 9th at 3:31 pm Rescue 11,
Medic 1, Medic 5 and Medic 9 were dispatched to an MVC rollover
with ejection at 6114 Road 109 in Franklin Township. Units arrived
on the scene at 3:40 pm and found both victims outside the vehicle.
EMS personnel tended to the victim and firefighters assisted.
The victim was loaded into Medic 1 by EMS and Fire personnel.
Rescue 11 returned to quarters at 4:30 pm.
09-039 Wednesday February 11th at 11:13 pm Brush
12 responded to 155 N Vine Street to investigate reported electric
wires down. The wires had been taken out by a tree falling across
them. Brush 12 returned to quarters at 11:45 pm.
09-040 Friday February 13th at 10:17 am Brush 12
responded to 155 N Vine Street to investigate the wires down
from Wednesday. With an electric detection meter it was confirmed
that the wires were not live. Tape was put up around the area
to keep people from the wires. Brush 12 returned to quarters
at 10:30 am.
09-041 Friday February 13th at 12:55 pm Rescue
11, Tanker 14 and Engine 30 form Station 39 responded to a reported
truck fire on I-71 at the 155 mm South Bound. Rescue 11 arrived
on the scene at 1:07 pm with nothing showing. After investigation
it was found that the right front wheel assembly had been on
fire. OSP sprayed the assembly extinguishing the fire. Firefighters
sprayed water on the assembly to reduce the heat build up in
the area. All units returned to quarters at 1:45 pm.
09-042 Saturday February 14th at 11:07 am were
dispatched to 108 East North Street for an MVC. Lieutenant 107
arrived on the scene at 11:08 am canceling the fire department.
No equipment responded form the station.
09-043 Sunday February 15th at 7:27 pm was dispatched
to 4493 US 42 for an MVC car into trees with injury. Station
29 was also dispatched to this incident. Engine 20 arrived on
the scene at 7:30 and Rescue 11 arrived on the scene at 7:34
pm. All equipment returned to quarters at 8:00 pm.
09-044 Sunday February 15th at 10:19 pm for a chimney
fire at 2799 Road 67. Rescue 11, Tanker, 14 Tanker 24 and Brush
22 responded at 10:25 pm arriving on the scene at 10:34 pm. The
chimney and the building were checked for hot spots and it was
determined that there were none. All units returned to quarters
at 10:56 pm.
09-045 Monday February 16th at 12:10 pm Rescue
11 responded MA with Station 29 to an MVC at the intersection
of road 24 and US 529. Engine 20 from Station 29 arrived on the
scene and cancelled Rescue 11. Rescue 11 returned to quarters
at 1:03 pm.
09-046 Monday February 16th at 1:55 pm Rescue 11
responded to 394 Lee Street for a reported chimney fire. Firefighters
arrived on the scene at 1:57 pm finding smoke throughout the
house. Firefighters removed the burning wood from the stove and
cleared the chimney from any obstructions. The owner was advised
that the chimney needed to be professionally checked to determine
if it was sound. Firefighters returned to quarters at 14:33 pm.
09-047 Wednesday February 18th at 5:05 pm Station
19, Station 29 and Station 59 were dispatched to a fire alarm
a 600 Douglas Street, Apartment B-3. Chief 101 responded direct
to the scene arriving at 5:06 pm, determined that the call was
for burned food on the stove, cancelled all units and cleared
the alarm. Chief 101 cleared the scene at 5:15 pm. No fire equipment
responded.
09-048 Thursday February 19th at 9:11 am Station
19 and 39 were dispatched to a reported MVC on I-71 mm 148 for
a car into an embankment. Squad 3 arrived on the scene at 9:24
am advising all incoming units that this is a non-injury crash.
Rescue 11 and Engine 30 arrived on the scene at 9:26 am and disconnected
the battery. All fire equipment returned to quarters at 9:47
am. Cleanup lasted until 10:15 am.
09-049 Thursday February 19th at 10:39 am for a
reported MVC involving a Head Start bus on road 9. Rescue 11,
Squad 1 and Medic 9 enroute at 10:40 am. SO cancelled all incoming
equipment at 10:42 am with nothing found. All equipment returned
to quarters at 10:47 am. Cleanup was complete at 11:15 am.
09-050 Friday February 20th at 11:06 pm Station
19, 29 and 59 were dispatched to a fire alarm at 220 South Main
Street, Gilead Christian School for a pulled pull station. Engine
15 responded at 11:11 pm and arrived on the scene at 11:12 pm.
Upon arrival, city PD advised that a door was found open and
he was inside checking the building. Upon firefighters arrival,
the alarm panel was checked and found that there was no alarm.
No lights or strobes were activated. Engine 23 was responding
from Cardington and was redirected to the Gilead Christian School
on road 115. They checked the structure, since it was occupied
and found nothing. The alarm company was called and they could
only advise us that the alarm was in zone 11 and that it was
a pull station. The building was checked and firefighters left
the scene at 11:23 pm. Firefighters cleaned the vehicles and
left the station at 11:45 pm.
09-051 Saturday February 21st at 6:49 pm wires
were reported hanging low at 3744 road 145. Brush 12 responded
to the area and found TV cable wires lying along the roadway.
The electric company truck was in the area, but nothing else
was located. Brush 12 returned to quarters at 7:13 pm.
09-052 Wednesday February 25th at 2:04 pm Station
19 was dispatched to the area of 5569 US 42 North for a fire
in the ditch. The fire was contained to a garbage bag of dishes
wrapped in newspaper and some grass along the ditch. The fire
was extinguished and Rescue 11 and Brush 12 returned to quarters
at 2:14 pm.
09-053 Wednesday February 25tha t 10:07 pm Rescue
11, Brush 12 and Tanker 14 were dispatched to a grass fire behind
4323 road 24. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 10:16 pm finding
a field of tall grass burning. The fire was extinguished at 10:27
pm. Chief 101 advises the owner that the fire was illegal due
to the content of the burn barrel and pile. He was advised of
local and state EPA burning regulations. All units returned to
quarters at 11:39 pm.
09-054 Thursday February 26th at 7:58 pm Tanker
14 was dispatched MA to Station 59 for a working fire at 7133
Road 56 in Congress Township. At 8:07 pm Engine 15 was dispatched
for a RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) to the same address. Tanker
14 arrived on the scene at 8:15 pm, Engine 15 arrived on the
scene at 8:24 pm and was released at 8:36 pm. Tanker 14 remained
on the scene until 11:00 pm returning to quarters at 11:31 pm.
After cleanup firefighters left the station by 12:00 am.
09-055 Saturday February 28th at 5:23 pm Rescue
11, Tanker 14, Engine 50, Tanker 54, Tanker 24, Brush 22 and
Brush 52 were dispatched to a working structure fire at 5248
Road 108 Lot #470. When firefighters arrived on the scene at
5:35 pm they found fire in an add-on room. The fire was extinguished
at 6:30 pm. It was determined that a heater and lamp were plugged
into a wall outlet and had apparently overloaded the receptacle
causing it to ignite. The fire spread to a chair and then the
room. Firefighters left the scene at 6:30 pm returning to quarters
at 7:13 pm.
09-056 Saturday February 28th at 7:35 pm Station
19 was dispatched to an explosion at 720 North Main Street Lot
#40. The furnace had exploded in a persons face and she was transported
to MCH. Firefighters checked out the structure and found no fire.
The city PD had put an extinguisher on the furnace prior to the
Fire Departments arrival. All equipment returned to quarters
at 8:02 pm.
