08-148 Thursday May 1st at 11:55 am Engine 15 responded to 133 Iberia Street, Sav-A-Lot for an odor of something hot. After firefighters checked the structure it was determined that it was a light ballast. Engine 15 returned to quarters at 12:45 pm.

 

08-149 Thursday May 1st at 1:24 pm Engine 15 and Brush 12 responded with Medic 1 and 2 for an MVC rollover on US 42 South past road 9. Units arrived on the scene at 1:28 pm and were released at 1:37 pm returning to quarters at 2:00 pm.

 

08-150 Saturday May 3rd at 9:06 am Engine 15, Rescue 11, Tower 18, Engine 20, Engine 23 and Engine 50 with Squad 1, Squad 2 and Medic 9 responded to Woodside Village for an activated fire alarm. Engine 15 arrived on the scene at 9:14 am. The source of the smoke was determined to be in the South dining area involving a burned waffle. All additional equipment was cancelled at 9:17 am. Engine 15, Rescue 11 and Tower 18 returned to quarters at 9:23 am. No damage to the structure.

08-151 Monday May 5th at 6:30 pm Station 19 was dispatched to an activated fire alarm at 371 South Delaware Street apartment 107. As members were responding to the station, the resident called back advising that it was smoke from cooking and that there was no fire. All units were cancelled before they could go in route.

 

08-152 Tuesday May 6th at 8:24 am Rescue 11 and Engine 15 were dispatched to a MVC at the intersection of St Rt 61 and Road 115 where 2 mini vans collided. Members arrived on the scene assisted with the victims and then secured the vehicle. Rescue 11 left the scene at 8:52 am to go to the County Services Building.

 

08-153 Tuesday May 6th at 8:28 am Engine 15 responded to the County Services building at 619 Marion Road for a gasoline leak caused by vandals putting holes in several gas tanks. The gas had soaked into the blacktop or evaporated. The gasoline destroyed some of the blacktop as it ran to the low spot in the lot. Firefighters advised that the gas had not traveled to any area that would be a hazard. EMA director was notified of the incident. All equipment left the scene at 9:25 am.

 

08-154 Tuesday May 6th at 2:36 pm Engine 15 was dispatched to MCH to assist with a patient. At 2:38 pm Engine 15 was cancelled.

 

08-155 Tuesday May 6th at 3:12 pm Engine 15 was dispatched to Dogwood Lane to assist Squad 4 with a patient who had fallen and was injured. Firefighters assisted with the victim and drove the squad to MCH. Engine 15 returned to quarters at 4:00 pm.

 

08-156 Tuesday May 6th at 7:52 pm Brush 12 and firefighters in the area responded to 212 State Street in Edison for a reported illegal burn. Upon arrival of fire units it was determined that the fire was not illegal in content, only that a proper burn container and permit was not acquired. The resident was advised of the law and Brush 12 returned to quarters at 8:11 pm.

 

08-157 Tuesday May 6th at 9:42 pm Chief 101 was advised of a possible illegal burn on road 115. After investigating the scene Engine 15 and Tanker 14 were dispatched to the scene to extinguish the fire. It is illegal to burn any standing building or mobile home. The fire was extinguished and the owner was advised of the burning regulations. All equipment returned to quarters at 10:53 pm. All equipment was back in service at 11:30 pm.

 

08-158 Wednesday May 9th at 3:53 Tanker 14 responded MA to I-71 mm 156 for a semi truck fire. Tanker 14 arrived on the scene at 4:11 pm and was released at 4:28 pm returning to quarters at 4:50 pm.

 

08-159 Friday May 9th at 7:13 am Brush 12 responded MA with Squad 1 for a “CODE” at Morrow County Sheriff’s Office. Brush 12 arrived on the scene at 7:20 am assisted with CPR. Brush 12 returned to quarters at 7:50 am.

 

08-160 Saturday May 10th at 4:45 pm Engine 15 responded to 15 ½ South Main Street for a child accidentally locked in an upstairs apartment. Engine 15 arrived on the scene preparing to access an upstairs window when the landlord arrived with a key to the apartment. Engine 15 returned to quarters at 4:55 pm.

 

08-161 Sunday May 11th at 12:52 pm Engine 15 and Tanker 14 responded to I-71 MA with Station 39 for a reported car fire. All emergency units were cancelled at 1:00 pm due the vehicle had lost a tire and there was no fire. All units returned to quarters at 1:30 pm.

08-162 Wednesday May 14th at 2:31 pm Engine 15 responded with Medic 9 and Medic 1 to road 27 to assist with a difficult breathing patient. Engine 15-crew assisted with moving the patient from the house to the squad, drove Medic 9 vehicle to MCH and then returned to quarters at 3:10 pm.

 

08-163 Friday May 16th at 5:01 pm Rescue 11 responded to an MVC between a motorcycle and a possible hit and run car on road 30 at road 75. EMS arrived on the scene and cancelled the fire department at 5:04 pm since there was no hazard at the scene. Rescue 11 returned to quarters at 5:08 pm.

 

08-164 Saturday May 17th at 6:41 pm Station 19 was dispatched to an MVC at the corner of Rich Street and West High Street for a car into a wall corner post. Firefighters carried tools top the scene, disconnected the battery and returned to quarters at 4:44 pm.

 

Saturday May 17th,Twenty-eight county firefighters from Mt. Gilead (21), Cardington (4), Marengo (2) and Iberia (1) spent the day in a propane training class sponsored by the Energy Cooperative Bob Herron of NGO Propane, and Consolidated Gas of Mt. Gilead, to train of the characteristics of propane, the dangers and how to handle propane emergencies safely. Classroom session was from 9:00 am until 11:30 am. After lunch at 1:00 pm firefighters practiced with live fires involving a residential propane tank, a typical cooking grill, a loose pipe flange, a broken pipe impinging on a wall and a forklift truck fire. Every firefighter was given the opportunity to participate in extinguishing fires involving these props. The day concluded at 4:30 pm. A total of 182 training hours was logged for the day.

 

 

08-165 Wednesday May 21st at 12:28 pm Med Flight 1 landed behind the fire station to pick up a victim of a fall. Med Flight 1 lifted off at 12:39 pm. Firefighters placed landing zone lights out and assisted the helicopter with area hazards and LZ information.

 

08-166 Thursday May 22nd at 8:25 am Brush 12 responded to 278 West High Street to assist the squad with moving a patient from the house to the squad. Returned to quarters at 8:44 am.

 

08-167 Thursday May 22nd at 9:09 am Engine 15, Engine 20 responded to 3035 West High Street in Edison for a reported fire alarm at Leaping-to-Learn. Units arrived on the scene, investigated the building but could not find anything that would have set off the alarm. The fire alarm had been reset upon fire department arrival, so the location of the alarm was not know. Engine 15 returned to quarters at 9:03 am.

 

08-168 Thursday May 22nd at 9:51 am Rescue 11 responded to 5965 St Rt 61 North for an MVC with a car off the road into a field. The driver was uninjured and Rescue 11 returned to quarters at 10:15 am.

 

08-169 Thursday May 22nd at 10:15 am Engine 15 responded to 3035 West High Street for an investigation on the lights flashing throughout the building. Engine 15 arrived on the scene at 10:17 am and checked the electrical panels, both false ceilings and found nothing that would cause the situation described. Engine 15 returned to station at 11:10 am. The tenant was advised that an electrical should be call to check the electrical circuits for problems.

 

08-170 Friday May 23rd at 5:49 am Engine 15, Tower 18 and Rescue 11 responded to 19 East High Street for a report of smoke in the hallway. Firefighters checked out the building and found no smoke odor. Checked with the other resident and tried to contact the owner without success. The upper floor was checked from the tower, finding all clear. Units returned to quarters at 6:45 am.

 

08-171 Friday May 23rd at 11:56 am Station 19 was dispatched to an automatic alarm system CO alarm at 5526 road 60. Before units responded the alarm was cleared. The cause of the alarm was from a cleaning chemical used on the deck.

 

08-172 Friday May 23rd at 3:50 pm Rescue responded to an MVC on St Rt 61 South for an MVC with a car in the ditch. Units responded to stabilize the vehicle. Rescue 11 arrived on the scene at 3:57 pm and returned to quarters at 4:09 pm.

 

08-173 Saturday May 24th at 12:30 pm Engine 10 responded MA with Station 59 to Candlewood Lake for a working house fire. Engine 53 arrived on the scene at 12:42 pm, Engine 10 arrived on the scene at 12:51 pm. The fire was extinguished at approximately 1:00 pm. Engine 10 was released at 1:15 pm and returned to quarters at 1:29 pm.

 

 

08-174 Monday May 26th at 11:08 am Engine 15 and Tanker 14 responded to Hidden Lakes for a dumpster fire. Engine 15 responded at 11:12 am, arriving on the scene at 11:19 am. The dumpster fire was contained to the dumpster of origin and extinguished at 11:54 am. All units returned to quarters at 12:03 pm.

 

08-175 Monday May 26th at 5:07 pm Rescue 11 responded to I-71 mm 157 for an MVC. Units reported that the crash was a non-injury and Rescue 11 was cancelled at 5:17 pm returning to quarters at 5:26 pm.

 

08-176 Monday May 26th at 5:15 pm Station 19 was dispatched to 371 South Delaware Street to assist the squad with a patient. A medic and firefighter responded in Brush 12 to assist. The medic rode in with the squad and Brush 12 picked him up at MCH. Brush 12 returned to quarters at 5:58 pm.

 

08-177 Thursday May 29th at 12:59 am Rescue 11 responded with Medic 9, Squad 1 and 2 to a single car MVC on St Rt 95 at road 69. Firefighters disconnected the battery cables and assisted with patient removal from the ditch. Rescue 11 returned to quarters at 1:29 am.

 

08-178 Friday May 30th at 11:16 am Engine 15, Engine 10, Tower 18, Engine 23, Medic 9, Squad 1 & 2 were dispatched to Leaping-to-Learn at 3035 St Rt 95 West for an activated fire alarm. Upon investigation it was determined that the starting of the air conditioner activated the duct smoke detector. It was also determined that there was a loose wire connection in a bank of lights that the owner of building will need to have corrected. The bank of lights was isolated by the fire department. A splice in the feeder line from the transformer was looked at by Ohio Edison and repaired. This did not correct the electrical situation. All units returned to quarters at 12:15 pm. No injuries and no loss.

 

08-179 Friday May 30th at 3:14 PM Rescue 11 and Engine 15 responded to an MVC at the south intersection of SR 42 and SR 61. There were no injuries. Firefighters directed traffic until the city police and sheriff deputy could arrive on the scene. All units returned to quarters at 4:14 pm.

 

Training - Saturday May 31st from 0830 hours 21 firefighters attended “Smoke" drill training until 1:30 pm. at 710 North Main Street. The house owned by Dave Decker and Jack Hull was donated for the training. Firefighters practiced search and rescue operations on both floors of the house. Small items such as hose adaptors were placed in upstairs bedrooms and downstairs kitchen. If a firefighter can find an item as small as these adaptors, they can find a small person. A "Mayday" drill was conducted when two firefighters became trapped under ceiling drywall in one of the bedrooms. Two firefighters made the search and rescue and removed the downed firefighters form the room. RIT operations were also conducted, where a firefighter becomes entrapped and is running out of air. A firefighter searches for the firefighter(s) and connects a hose so the firefighter that is running our of air can buddy breath from the rescuers air system. A total of 100.5 hours of training was accumulated for the day. An average of 4 3/4 hours of training CEU's acquired by the firefighters.
