08-282 Monday September 1st at 12:25 pm responded
to a report of smoke coming from the woods at the 154 mm North
Bound on I-71. The area of road 118 was checked along with bridges
on road 14, 314 and 121. All equipment returned to quarters at
1:00pm.
08-283 Monday September 1st at 2:17 pm Rescue 11
and Brush 12 responded to the State Park for a person that fell
on the White trail and broke her ankle. Firefighters
carried the victim out of the park on a Stokes basket. Rescue
11 and Brush 12 returned to quarters at 3:12 pm.
08-284 Tuesday September 2nd at 11:10 am Rescue
11 responded to 62 ½ East North Street to assist the squad
with a patient on the second floor of the apartment due to the
sharp turn at the top of the stairs and the loose banister. Rescue
11 returned to quarters at 11:30 am.
08-285 Tuesday September 2nd at 6:28 pm Station
19 and 29 were dispatched to a working garage and two house fires
in Edison at 104 and 106 West Vine Street. Rescue 11 arrived
on the scene at 6:40 hours finding fully involved garage fire
with houses at 104 and 106 West Vine Street on fire. Initial
efforts were directed to the houses. Engine 15, Tower 18, Engine
23, Rescue 21, Brush 12, Brush 17, Squad 1 and 2 and Medic 9
responded to the scene. The fire was brought under control at
7:45 pm and declared totally extinguished at 9:40 pm. The fire
was stubborn at 104 Vine Street since it breached the outside
wall of the house into the void area above the stairs. Both homes
have been foreclosed on. The loss was estimated to be around
$50,000 to the houses, garage and attached shed. Engine 23 from
Cardington was released at 7:48 pm and Rescue 21 was released
at 7:58 pm. Rescue 11 remained on the scene until 9:41 pm when
the fire was declared to be out. Clean up of equipment took firefighters
until 10:45 pm. The State Fire Marshal was notified and arrived
on the scene Wednesday September 3rd at 1:30 pm. The investigation
determined that there was no apparent reason for the fire to
have started. It is still under investigation for possible arson.
There was a major problem with the hydrant at the corner of Boundary
and Vine Street. The connection size is a size below the standard
for fire hydrants. We do not carry an adaptor for theses hydrants.
There are two other hydrants in Edison that we are aware of that
have the same size connection.
08-286 Tuesday September 2nd is a separate report
for the exposure house fire at 104 West Vine Street in Edison.
08-287 Tuesday September 2nd at 10:10 pm Brush
12 responded to Dogwood Lane to assist the squad with moving
a patient from the garage to the squad. Brush 12s firefighter
arrived on the scene at 10:15 pm and then drove the squad to
the hospital. Brush 12 returned to quarters at 10:43 pm.
080-288 Wednesday September 3rd at 8:20 pm Engine
15 responded to a reported dumpster fire behind 133 Iberia Street,
Sav-a-lot. Engine 15 arrived on the scene at 8:26 pm to find
a bail of cardboard had been set on fire. The fire was extinguished
at 8:54 pm. Engine 15 returned to quarters at 9:15 pm. This makes
the third suspected arson fire in the area in the last two months.
08-289 Friday September 5th at 11:47 am Rescue
11 responded to an MVC at 5618 S R 42 North. A car had gone off
the South side of the road behind a guardrail. No one was injured.
Rescue secured the vehicle and returned to quarters at 12:18
pm.
08-290 Friday September 5th at 4:40 pm Firefighters
responses MA to assist squad 1 with a person down in a garage
with a possible heart. Firefighters assisted in removing the
patient from the garage to the squad. A firefighter drove the
squad to MCH. All firefighters left the scene at 4:49 pm.
08-291 Monday September 8th at 3:40 pm Brush 12
responded to assist Squad 1 with an uncon/unresp person at 371
South Delaware Street. Brush 12 provided a driver for the squad
and returned to quarters at 4:00 pm.
08-292 Tuesday September 9th at 2:47 am Station
19 was dispatched to a fire alarm at 4400 US 42 South at Maple
Run Veterinary Clinic. Captain Young responded direct to the
scene approximately 1 mile from his home. Met the key holder
and checked the property finding a malfunctioning detector. Captain
Young had all equipment stand-by on station. The scene was declared
clear at 3:10 am.
08-293 Thursday September 11th at 10:25 am Brush
12 responded to 367 South Delaware Street to assist squad 1 with
a patient. Brush 12 returned to quarters at 11:00 am.
08-294 Thursday September 11th at 12:42 pm Rescue
11 responded non-emergency to road 30 to assist squad 5 moving
a patient from the back room to the squad. Rescue 11 returned
to quarters at 1:07 pm.
08-295 Friday September 12th at 9:37 am Rescue
11 responded to an MVC where a car struck a utility pole, shearing
it off, then ending up in a yard. The victim was removed from
the vehicle and taken to MCH by squad 1. Rescue 11 returned to
quarters at 10:30 am.
08-296 Friday September 12th at 1:06 pm Rescue
11, Engine 23, Engine 50, Squad 1 and 2 were dispatched to a
fire alarm at 338 Park Avenue, Mt. Gilead High School, for an
activated fire alarm. The alarm was caused by dust entering the
air duct system setting off the detector.
08-297 Friday September 12th at 1:09 pm Rescue
11 responded to US 42 south for an MVC car into guardrail with
no injuries. Rescue 11 checked the vehicle for hazards, finding
none returned to quarters at 1:30 pm.
08-298 Saturday September 13th at 2:51 pm Rescue
11 responded MA to Station 39 on I-71 mm 147 N.B. for a car and
semi MVC with both over an embankment. Rescue 11 was released
by Lt.306 at 3:12 and returned to quarters at 3:26 pm.
08-299 Sunday September 14th at 3:43 pm Station
19 was dispatched to lines down at 202 North Main Street. Chief
101 responded direct to the scene and reported that the line
was telephone. The line was disconnected from the house and moved
to the west side of the road. All units left the scene at 3:47
pm.
08-300 Sunday September 14th at 4:14 pm Station
19 was dispatched to lines down on road 110, then to 54 South
Main Street for glass from a 3rd floor window on the street,
then multiple responses for wires, limbs and poles down across
the roadway, on top of houses and vehicles. There were 17 different
in Mt. Gilead, Edison, Franklin, Canaan and Gilead townships
from 3:50 pm until 9:00 pm. Units stood-by until safety blockades
were in place to protect the public. All units were in quarters
at 9:10 pm.
08-301 Sunday September 14th at 11:15 pm Brush
12 was dispatched to assist Medic 1 on South Delaware Street.
A firefighter drove the squad to MCH. Brush 12 returned to quarters
at 12:00 am.
08-302 Monday September 15th at 2:57 am Station
49, 19 and 59 were dispatched to a fire alarm at the Northmore
High School at 5333 Road 29. Station 49 units arrived on the
scene and cancelled MA equipment. Tanker 14 returned to quarters
at 3:30 am.
08-303 Monday September 15th at 11:36 am Rescue
11 and Brush 12 responded to a reported illegal burn on road
113. Units arrived on the scene an extinguished the fire. All
equipment returned to quarters at 11:57 am.
08-304 Monday September 15th Rescue 11 was dispatched
to a reported illegal burn at 133 South Rich Street. After checking
the scene it was found that the fire was from a charcoal grill
and completely legal. Rescue 11 returned to quarters at 4:10
pm.
08-305 Tuesday September 16th at 10:43 am Squad
2 was dispatched to 117 North Rich Street for a fall. Squad was
on a call, so Rescue 11 responded to the scene to assist the
victim until Squad 2 could arrive from Cardington. Rescue 11
arrived on the scene at 10:44 am, Squad 2 arrived on the scene
at 10:47 am. Rescue 11 returned to quarters at 11:02 am.
08-306 Tuesday September 16th at 1:15 pm Rescue
11 and Tanker 14 responded to an MVC, car into a tree. At 1:16
pm Rescue 11 was advised that the vehicle was fully involved
in fire. Rescue 11 arrived on the scene at 1:18 pm extinguishing
the fire with class A foam from the front trash line.
The fire was brought under control at 1:25 pm and declared a
signal O at 1:57 pm.
08-307 Tuesday September 16th at 1:57 pm while
leaving the scene of the car fire, noticed black smoke south
of the road 110, US 42 intersection. Rescue 11 arrived on the
scene at 4983 US 42 at 1:59 pm. Upon investigation the firefighters
found that the owner was burning carpet in the back yard. The
owner was advised of the Ohio EPA and State burning regulations
and asked to extinguish the fire. The fire was extinguished and
Rescue 11 returned to quarters at 2:27 pm.
08-308 Wednesday September 17th at 10:25 am Brush
12 was dispatched to assist Squad 1 and Medic 9 with an unconscious/unresponsive
person at 5248 road 108. Brush 12 was released at 10:51 am returning
to quarters.
08-309 Wednesday September 17th at 5:27 pm Station
19 was dispatched to tree limbs on electric wires burning. Lieutenant
107 was in the area and after investigating found the power company
on the scene. All fire department equipment was cancelled before
enroute at 5:34 pm.
08-310 Wednesday September 17th at 5:55 pm Station
19 was dispatched to tree limbs arching and burning at 216 South
Street. Chief 101 and firefighter 1927 responded direct and determined
that there was nothing that we could do about the situation.
Fire control was advised to notify Ohio Edison of the situation
and location. As Chief 101 was leaving the scene found low hanging
phone lines on South Street.
At 9:15 pm dispatch requested Chief 101 to respond
to 216 South Street to investigate the previous electric lines
and limbs. Fire line tape was placed in the area to keep people
away. It was explained that the fire department could not do
anything about the situation and the electric company would have
to remedy the situation.
08-311 Friday September 19th at 8:45 am Rescue
11 responded to a reported truck fire at 555 Marion Road in the
Kroger parking lot. The owner of the truck extinguished the fire
with a portable extinguisher. Damage was limited to approximately
$100. Rescue 11 returned to quarters at 9:00 am.
08-312 Friday September 19th at 11:18 am Rescue
11 responded non-emergency to 1990 US 95 just West of Denmark
for a reported propane odor along the roadway. Rescue 11 arrived
on the scene at 11:30 am and investigated the area finding no
odor of anything. Rescue 11 returned to quarters at 11:45 am.
A passerby reported the odor to the S.O. and they relayed it
to the Dispatch Center who dispatched the appropriate department.
Anyone reporting situations such as this should stay at the scene
until the fire department arrives so we can best determine what
and where the odor is.
08-313 Wednesday September 24th at 8:36 pm Station
19 was dispatched to an MVC with a Ice Cream truck in the ditch.
Chief 101 was 1 mile east of the incident and went direct to
the scene. Upon arrival at 8:38 found a van on its right side
with the victim still in the drivers seat hanging by the seat
belt. Access was limited because the back doors were locked and
the key was not found. Chief 101, Medic 9 and the OSP officer
forced the back doors open to gain access. Rescue 11 arrived
on the scene 8:48 pm and then the rescuers removed the victim
from the seat, placed the victim on a backboard and removed the
victim to the squad at 8:58 pm. All station 19 equipment were
released from the scene at 9:01 pm.
08-314 Thursday September 25th at 8:36 Rescue 11
and Engine 15 responded to a reported trailer fire at 196 South
Main Street, Lot #13. Upon arrival it was determined that the
fire was the owner was burning an abandoned camper trailer in
a burning pit. According to the Ohio EPA and Village ordinances
this is illegal to burn demolition debris. Since the City PD
had previously advised the person that it was illegal to burn
this material and he continued to do so, the City PD gave the
owner a citation for illegal burning. The fire was extinguished
and all equipment returned to quarters at 8:55 pm.
08-315 Friday September 26th at 8:44 am Rescue
11 and Engine 15 responded MA with 1st Consolidated F D to 1784
S R 95 for an MVC dump truck rollover with driver trapped. Rescue
11 responded at 8:47 am and arrived on the scene at 8:59 am.
1st Consolidated fire units arrived on the scene at 8:53 am.
When fire units arrived on the scene it was determined that the
driver was pinned by his lower leg. After several minutes, Marion
Township was dispatched to the scene for heavy-duty air bags
to raise the truck. A heavy farm tractor was called for to give
an anchor point to pull against. Firefighters used a long ram
under the driver to move enough material to free the drivers
lower extremities. Firefighters from all three departments worked
for over 2 hours and 15 minutes to free the driver from the entrapment.
Life Flight was dispatched to the scene to care for the victim.
All fire equipment returned to quarters at 11:48 am and was back
in service by 1:45 pm.
08-316 Friday September 26th at 3:28 pm Tanker
14 responded MA with Station 39 for a large column of black smoke
at 3956 Road 21. Engine 33 arrived on the scene at 3:59 pm and
confirmed that the fire was natural gas burning off from the
oil well. Tanker 14 returned to quarters at 5:16 pm.
08-317 Friday September 26th at 7:52 pm Rescue
11 responded MA with Station 59 for an MVC on I-71 mm 157 in
the median. Rescue 11 responded at 7:56 pm and staged at the
interchange until the area had been checked with nothing found.
All fire equipment returned to quarters at 8:21 pm.
08-318 Sunday September 28th at 1:13 pm Station
19, Station 29 and Station 59 were dispatched to 555 Marion Road,
to the Kroger store for an activated fire alarm denoting trouble.
After arriving on the scene it was determined that the trouble
alarm had been going off since before 11:00 pm. Chief 101 advised
the manager to get the system repaired and to monitor the store
until the repairs were complete. All units returned to quarters
at 1:43 am.
08-319 Sunday September 28th at 4:30 pm Rescue
11 responded MA with Squad 1 for a victim on a four-wheeler crash
since information where the victim was located could not be found
out. Eventually it was determined that the victim was by the
house, so Rescue 11 was cancelled. Rescue 11 returned to quarters
at 5:00 pm.
08-320 Tuesday September 30th at 8:30 pm Station
19 was dispatched to a working motorcycle fire at 217 West High
Street. Engine 15 arrived on the scene at 8:36 pm finding the
motorcycle was fully involved 10 feet from the garage. The fire
was extinguished at 8:38 pm and Engine 15 returned to quarters
at 8:55 pm. The loss was estimated at $15,000 and was insured.
