08-258 Saturday August 9th
at 3:31 am Engine 15, Engine 10, Tower 18 and Rescue 11 responded
to a fully involved two-story barn fire behind 247 West High
Street. Engine 15 arrived on the scene at 3:37 am, deployed two
1 ¾ pre-connected hand lines to protect exposures.
By this time the building was a total loss. There was damage
to the three-stall garage to the west across the parking lot,
damage to the house siding at 266 South Delaware Street. Trees
to the East of the building protected the apartment complex to
the immediate East of the building. The State Fire Marshalls
office was notified at 4:45 am and arrived on the scene at 5:48
am. The Fire Marshalls Arson Investigator confirmed Fire
Chief 101s suspicions that it was in fact an arson fire.
There was no electric to the structure, the lawn mower inside
the building had not been run this year. There were 2 small containers
of gasoline in the building. The loss has not been completely
determined at this time the fire is still under investigation.
All units returned to quarters at 6:05 am. Chief 101 met with
the Fire Investigator until 7:00 am.

at 104 and 106 West Vine Street in Edison determined to be Arson.
08-285 Tuesday September 2nd at 6:28 pm Station
19 and 29 were dispatched to a working garage and two house fires
in Edison at 104 and 106 West Vine Street. Rescue 11 arrived
on the scene at 6:40 hours finding fully involved garage fire
with houses at 104 and 106 West Vine Street on fire. Initial
efforts were directed to the houses. Engine 15, Tower 18, Engine
23, Rescue 21, Brush 12, Brush 17, Squad 1 and 2 and Medic 9
responded to the scene. The fire was brought under control at
7:45 pm and declared totally extinguished at 9:40 pm. The fire
was stubborn at 104 Vine Street since it breached the outside
wall of the house into the void area above the stairs. Both homes
have been foreclosed on. The loss was estimated to be around
$50,000 to the houses, garage and attached shed. Engine 23 from
Cardington was released at 7:48 pm and Rescue 21 was released
at 7:58 pm. Rescue 11 remained on the scene until 9:41 pm when
the fire was declared to be out. Clean up of equipment took firefighters
until 10:45 pm. The State Fire Marshal was notified and arrived
on the scene Wednesday September 3rd at 1:30 pm. The
investigation determined that there was no apparent reason for
the fire to have started. It is still under investigation for
possible arson. There was a major problem with the hydrant
at the corner of Boundary and Vine Street. The connection size
is a size below the standard for fire hydrants. We do not carry
an adaptor for theses hydrants. There are two other hydrants
in Edison that we are aware of that have the same size connection.
